Over the years with my snake breeding business (MohrSnakes), I've accumulated more and more snakes and that equals more and more babies. With more babies you need more places to put them. I used to use deli cups but that was a pain to open and close them one by one. I tried shoebox racks but that seemed too big for a hatchling. The next step in innovation was to do it myself. After a year or two tinkering, I found the answer.....
I created these small racks (a.k.a. corn condos) for small hatchlings. They hold 10 bins each. The bins are the standard Rubbermaid sandwich container which is about 6 X 6 and can easily be found at your local Wal-Mart etc. It is the perfect size for a standard size napkin so clean-up is a breeze. I use 2 oz. deli cups which do NOT tip over and are easily purchased at food supply stores or Sam's Club (or I sell them too). The standard rack is made of pine shelving outside and waterproof tileboard for the 'shelves'. This is a lidless system and each 'top' for the bin is waterproof tileboard. The condo size is approximately 2 feet tall and 8 inches wide and deep. I left the wood raw and unfinished so you can do a number of things: paint, stain, polyurethane or just leave it that way. The wood is exactly how I get it and may contain imperfections or knots but I personally think this adds character to the unit. There is a sixteenth of an inch space between the bin and shelf for air exchange and I've used these systems with corns for 2 years now (several hundred corns) and have not had an escape due to the gap. The back is tileboard and is fastened with brad nails. If you would like it removable for heat tape it can be fastened with screws but you need to request this feature. Also note, there is NO heat on these units and I do not install heat tape but some of my customers have done it and say it works well.
